Express Entry — Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)

The primary pathway for workers with foreign work experience. Requires strong language skills, a degree, and competitive Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.

Key Criteria

  • 1+ year of continuous skilled work experience
  • CLB 7 or higher in English or French
  • Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for foreign degrees

Express Entry — Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Designed for individuals who have already gained skilled work experience in Canada. Often features lower language requirements depending on your NOC code.

Key Criteria

  • 1+ year of skilled work experience in Canada
  • CLB 5 or 7 depending on NOC TEER category
  • No direct education requirement

Express Entry — Federal Skilled Trades (FST)

For qualified tradespersons with job offers or Canadian certificates of qualification.

Key Criteria

  • 2+ years of experience in a skilled trade
  • Valid job offer OR Canadian certificate of qualification
  • Basic language proficiency (CLB 4/5)

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)

Canada's 10 provinces and 3 territories each operate their own immigration streams based on local labor needs. A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points to your Express Entry profile.

Key Criteria

  • Requirements vary by province (e.g., OINP, AINP, BC PNP)
  • Often requires a connection to the province (study, work, or job offer)
  • Some streams target specific occupations in demand

Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

An employer-driven program designed to help employers in Atlantic Canada hire qualified candidates for jobs they haven't been able to fill locally.

Key Criteria

  • Job offer from a designated employer in Atlantic Canada
  • 1+ year of related work experience
  • Lower language requirements (CLB 4)
